Pacquiao starts training ahead of Broner fight
With his next match coming in less than two months, boxing champion and Senator Manny Pacquiao has started getting in shape with intensive training in the United States, according to a report of Mav Gonzales on "24 Oras."
The southpaw ring legend will face Adrien Broner on January 19 in Las Vegas to defend his WBA world welterweight title.
Throwing punches to the heavy bag and attacking the speedball, Pacquiao did conditioning and core exercises with his training coach Justine Fortune.
"We'll hit this one pretty hard. It'll be an intense shorter training camp because you have to remember we have to go back to the US," Fortune said.
Pacquiao, who is turning 40 in December, believes he is still in good shape.
"God's good and binigyan niya 'ko ng malakas na pangangatawan. Thank God the medical went well. Maganda naman lahat ng resulta. I don't have a problem with my heart,” he said.
“It's still Jinkee inside my heart,” he added, referring to his wife.
Coach Buboy Fernandez is still the head trainer of Pacquiao for the fight, while Coach Freddie Roach has been invited to be his consultant and strategist as they met in the US.
"Sinabi ko sa kanya ganito, you'll always be part of team Pacquiao. I want you to be with me in this fight. Sabi kong ganu'n but let Buboy do the mitts,” Pacquiao said.
Team Pacquiao expressed their excitement that the boxing icon will set foot anew on the ring in Las Vegas.
"I think it's exciting to fight back in Vegas. People in the US are also excited to see him back there," Fortune said.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao replied to Broner’s hot comments during their press tour.
"Sana kung 'yung bilis ng bunganga niya, ganu'n din siya kabilis pagdating ng fight," Pacquiao said. —Joviland Rita/ LDF, GMA News
