The much-anticipated showdown between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin lived up to the hype following a twelve round slugfest that ended in a draw Saturday night (Sunday morning PHL time) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Both fighters felt each other in the early going, but the fight quickly turned to an all-out brawl with Golovkin being the aggressor and Alvarez being the counter-puncher. Alvarez and Golovkin stuck to the game plan up to the final bell in a bout that saw them trade heavy blows throughout the course of their epic encounter.

After twelve rounds, one judge scored it 118-110 for Alvarez, 115-113 for Golovkin and 114-114 ending the contest in a split draw.

PACQUIAO JABS JUDGES’ SCORECARDS

Countless fans expressed their disbelief on social media right after the scorecards were announced, specifically enraged at how judge Adalaide Byrd had it 118-110 for Canelo.

Many felt that the defending WBC, WBA and IBF world middleweight champion Golovkin deserved the nod for being the aggressor throughout the fight, while others say Alvarez outboxed the champ and deserved the win.

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, who lost his world welterweight title in a highly controversial fight against Jeff Horn this past July in Brisbane, also had something to say on how the judges scored the showdown between Alvarez and Golovkin.

“Did they bring these judges over from Australia?” Pacquiao chimed on Twitter.
