Pinoy fighter Marvin Sonsona wins, but fails to impress against journeyman

Former world super flyweight champion Marvin Sonsona failed to impress against journeyman Jonathan Arellano in what was supposed to be a stay-busy fight on Satuday (Sunday PHL time) at StubHub Center in Carson, California.

It was Sonsona's first fight since avenging his lone defeat against Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. by split decision in last year.

Known for packing power in his punches, the 24-year-old Sonsona opted to box and move away from danger with the use of his jab instead of looking for a finish.

The fighter from General Santos ultimately bagged a majority decision victory, improving his record to 20-1-1 with 15 knockouts while Arellano fell to 15-6-2 with 3 knockouts. The scorecards were 95-95, 96-94 and 96-94. --JST, GMA News
