Pinoy boxer Eden Sonsona pulls off major upset in Mexico, wins WBC international title

General Santos native Eden Sonsona will most likely break into the world rankings once again after pulling a major upset against previously unbeaten Mexican prospect Adrian Estrella Sunday, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

Sonsona, 26, came out swinging in the opening round throwing wild looping lefts at the visually larger Estrella. The Filipino didn't find his mark until round two - landing a hard right hook on top that sent Estrella face first to the canvass.

Estrella got up but was unable to continue, earning Sonsona a technical knockout victory to bag the WBC international super featherweight title at the 0:27 mark of the second round.

The cousin of former world champion Marvin Sonsona, Eden went up two divisions (from 122 to 130 pounds) for the vacant title and improved his record to 34-6-2 with 12 knockouts. Estrella, on the other hand, tasted defeat for the first time in his professional career as he fell to 22-1 with 20 knockouts. - RAF, GMA News
