Don't trust the judges: Pacquiao should KO Mayweather to win, says Marquez

Juan Manuel Marquez believes that Manny Pacquiao has stop Floyd Mayweather on May 2 to deal the brash American champion his first defeat.

“He needs to go for the knockout,” he told Golpe y Golpe according to theboxingvoice.com. “In Vegas, the judges are going to favor Mayweather if a fight goes to a decision.”

It took a knock out for the Mexican boxer to finally score a clear win against his Filipino rival after their first three fights went to decision, and for Marquez, Pacman would do best to follow his example.

The undefeated Mayweather is well-known for his defensive style that wins on points, which could spell a bad outcome for Pacquiao in the score cards as judges tend to favor the A-side.

Marquez, who lost to Mayweather via unanimous decision in 2009, said the Sarangani representative has to be aggressive but also needs to be careful of the American boxer's counter attacks.

“Pacquiao, when he’s aggressive is when he’s at his best," he said. "In most fights, he’s not worried about what comes back but with Mayweather he’ll have to be cautious."

Marquez said that the pound-for-pound king has the advantage due to his size and speed that can match up with Pacman's, and his defense will pose problems for the Filipino boxing champion.

"Mayweather is the best counter puncher in the game. He knows what will hurt Pacquiao,” he said. —Marisse Panaligan/JST, GMA News
