Boxing: Laurente, Elorde brothers, emerge victorious in Parañaque

Dennis Laurente, Juan Martin and Juan Miguel Elorde made a clean sweep of their Indonesian opponents at the Flash Grand Ballroom, Elorde Sports Center in Parañaque, Friday.

The WBC ABCO junior middleweight champion Laurente did not waste a second the moment the fight started, firing hard shots from both hands to the head and body of Elly Pangaribuan.

A right hook, left uppercut to the mid-section in round two sent Pangaribuan crumbling to the canvass. The helpless challenger was counted out by referee Virgilio Garcia at the 2:59 mark.

Laurente successfully defended his title for the second time and improved his record to 48-5-5 with 29KOs while Pangaribuan dropped to 3-4 with 1KO.

WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion Juan Martin "Bai" Elorde (16-1-1, 7KOs) suffered a cut for the second consecutive time in his non-title bout against Juniston Simbolon (7-12-1, 3KOs) in the co-main event.

Simbolon was game and taunting in the early going of the fight. A left straight to the body followed by a right hook on top sent Simbolon flying to the canvass in round two.

Both fighters traded shots but it was Bai who landed the harder and cleaner punches. An accidental clash of heads in round 6 caused a long cut on Bai's forehead, prompting the referee to stop the fight upon the advise of ringside physician.

Bai bagged a technical decision win after six rounds of action. The scorecards were 60-52, 60-52 and 59-53.

Juan Miguel "Mig" Elorde (16-1, 8KOs) scored a fifth round TKO victory over Paulus Baransano (0-4) but not without getting puzzled with an unfamiliar style.

Mig had a significant height advantage but Baransano's crisp counter-punching threw him off in the early rounds.

Mig started the bout with his patented short punches to the head and body while Baransano remained on his toes and timed Elorde with right straight counter shots.

A right straight to the body left Baransano open as he got caught by a perfectly timed left hook to the head that dropped him in round three. Baransano was able to beat the count and even traded shots with Mig in the last 10 seconds of the round.

A double left hook to the body from Mig badly hurt Baransano in round 5. After taking the shots, Baransano turned away and ran to the other end of the ring which prompted referee Verigilio Garcia to wave the fight. The official time was 2:19 of round 5. - RAF, GMA News
