Roach believes Pacquiao will beat Mosley by knockout

From Day 1 to the eve of the fight, Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach clings to his belief of a knockout win for the Filipino boxing icon. “Shane likes to hit and grab. When he grabs, he is reaching for you and that leaves him open for a punch. We worked on that a lot," explains Pacquiao’s trainer a day before the Filipino boxing sensation meets American challenger Sugar Shane Mosley for the welterweight championship of the world at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. “I think that is where we are going to beat Shane – down the middle." An 18-year pro, Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) had shown durability despite his advance age of 39 by not being knocked out in all of his 53 pro fights. But that may come to an end Saturday especially against a relentless puncher like the Pacman. With Mosley showing signs of age in his last two bouts against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Sergio Mora, Roach disclosed they plan to force the action on the California native right from the opening bell. “Most older fighters go forward well, but they can’t go backwards in the ring," he stressed. “They can be aggressive, but if you can get them on their heels, they’re kind of lost. The legs don’t get them out the way like they used to." Roach ironically, received his third straight and fifth overall Trainer of the Year award from the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) during its annual Awards Dinner at the MGM Grand Friday night. - RCJ, GMA News
