UE taps Chris Gavina as new men's basketball coach

The University of the East tapped Chris Gavina as the newest head coach of its men's basketball team.

UE announced the development on Thursday.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Chris Gavina to the Red Warriors family. His leadership, passion and experience in both local and international basketball will be instrumental in molding our new breed of champions,” UE President Zosimo Battad said, according to the university's Facebook post.

Gavina previously handled pro teams such as Kia and Rain or Shine in the PBA and the Taichung Suns in Taiwan's T1 League.

“The UE Red Warriors have a rich tradition, and I am eager to instill a culture of hard work, resilience and accountability. My goal is to help these young men reach their fullest potential by fostering a relentless work ethic, which, when paired with that never-say-die spirit, will make us a force to reckon with,” Gavina said.

Gavina will replace Jack Santiago, who last season steered the Red Warriors to a 6-8 win-loss record. The Red Warriors almost made it to the Final Four, but fell to Adamson University in the playoff for the fourth spot.
