Collins Akowe registers double-double anew as NUNS goes 4-0 in UAAP HS hoops

Reigning UAAP high school basketball Most Valuable Player Collins Akowe registered another double-double performance to tow National University Nazareth School past Ateneo de Manila University, 75-59, Thursday in the Season 87 boys' basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Akowe posted 25 points and 16 rebounds, along with four assists, a steal, and a block, as the Bullpups remained perfect in four games. This is also Akowe's fourth consecutive double-double this season.

For NUNS head coach Kevin de Castro, however, the Bullpups should not be complacent despite the winning streak.

“Mahirap hindi maging complacent ‘eh. We'll try our best na dapat hindi sila maging complacent. Patuloy lang namin sila i-push sa practice,” said De Castro.

Aside from Akowe, Chad Cartel and Joje Matias scored in double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Jay Leal was the only double digit scorer for the winless Blue Eaglets with 18 points.

In girls' basketball, NUNS (2-0) also notched its second straight win at the expense of De La Salle Santiago Zobel (0-2), 86-44.

Meanwhile, the Zobel boys improved to 3-1 after taking down defending champion Adamson University (1-3), 77-69.

In the other games of the boys' tournament, University of Santo Tomas (3-1) defeated University of the East (2-2), 69-59, while Far Eastern University-Diliman (3-1) beat University of the Philippines Integrated School (0-4), 84-60.
