UE, head coach Jack Santiago part ways

The University of the East announced on Tuesday that the Red Warriors and head coach Jack Santiago have parted ways.

"After four UAAP seasons, the school management said Santiago is parting ways with the team to explore fresh challenges," UE said in a social media post.

“We thank you for not just the many feats you have brought out of our student-athletes but also for your countless sacrifices, care and big-heartedness, including numerous going-the-extra-mile, above-and-beyond provisions of nourishment,” the school added.

The school, in a letter, also thanked Santiago for leading the Red Warriors to one of its memorable runs in UAAP Season 87 where it finished with 6-8 and had a chance to enter the Final Four, but fell to Adamson University in the playoff.

"We thank you for what you attained especially in UAAP 87, the most breathtaking UE Red Warriors Men's Basketball season in recent history. You and the Warriors wowed, upsetting competitors, surprising supporters, thrilling fans within and beyond UE," the university said in a letter.

UE also said Santiago thanked the university for the opportunity to work with them.

"I sincerely thank UE for the privilege and opportunity to work alongside such talented student-athletes, dedicated staff and passionate supporters for the past five years. The moments on and off the court and the relationships I've built with each of them shall remain close to my heart," the university said.

Santiago joined the Red Warriors in 2020.
