NBTC condemns physical altercation in Las Piñas qualifiers
The National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) said in a statement that an altercation transpired during the Las Piñas City local qualifying tournament semifinals between De La Salle Zobel and Arandia College last Sunday.
NBTC, a league aimed to develop aspiring high school basketball players all over the country, revealed coaches and parents were seen getting involved in the melee.
However, NBTC said it is giving the local organizers the 'autonomy' in imposing possible penalties against the persons involved.
"It's unfortunate that a fight marred the semifinals of the Las Pinas City local qualifying tournament between De La Salle Zobel and Arandia College, with footages of parents and coaches engaging in a full blown melee," NBTC said in a statement.
"We respect the autonomy of the local organizers, in this case the LPM Basketball League, with regards to handing out just penalties for the players and coaches involved."
De La Salle Zobel eventually took home the victory and is set to take on AMA Basic Education in the finals round, which the NBTC recommends to be held behind closed doors.
"May we also remind our coaches, parents, and supporters that we are stewards of the game and it's our task to teach these young men to be good role models on and off the court," NBTC added.
"More than the pursuit for greatness, the NBTC highly values its virtuesof developing skills, building character, and raising leaders."
