Kai Sotto confirms sustaining ACL injury in B.League
Kai Sotto confirmed tearing his ACL following an incident during Koshigaya's loss to Mikawa in the Japan B. League over the weekend.
The 7-foot-3 bruiser announced the development on Wednesday through his social media account.
"The worst way to start the year, might be the darkest day of my basketball career, when I was told I tore my ACL," Sotto said.
"Tough to let this one sink in."
With the injury, Sotto is highly likely to miss the upcoming campaign of Gilas Pilipinas in the third and final window of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, where the Filipinos will take on Chinese Taipei and New Zealand in two away games.
The 22-year-old Sotto has also been placed in the injury list of Koshigaya and will also miss the B. League Asia rising Star Games to be held on January 18.
"I appreciate all the love and support everyone has given me these past few days. I know God has a better plan for me and we just have to keep going," he added.
In a previous interview, Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone stressed they are not likely to expand the pool, at least for the upcoming window, and will instead stick to the current pool of players.
