Latvian basketball player Janis Timma passes away


Latvian basketball player Janis Timma passed away on Tuesday. He was 32.

"EuroLeague Basketball joins the Latvian and global basketball communities in mourning the passing of Janis Timma on Tuesday," the league said in a post on X.

 

 

Timma played for several clubs in Europe, had a stint with the Orlando Magic in the Summer League, and played for the Magic's G League team Lakeland during the 2021-22 season.

He also played for Latvia's national team and was even part of the squad which the Philippines defeated during the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament last year

Timma's former clubs remembered him in his passing.

"We bid farewell with deep sorrow to Janis Timma, who was a player for Monbus Obradoiro last season. From the moment he joined the team, he gave his all for our jersey, and for that, we will always be grateful," Timma's most recent club Monbus Obradoiro said in a post.

 

 

"We are all shocked and saddened to learn the tragic news, that our former player, Janis Timma has passed away at the age of 32. We will always remember him for his kind heart and his smile," said Olympiacos BC, the club Timma played from 2018 to 2019.

 

 

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and all that were close to him," the Orlando Magic said.
