Adamson outlasts Ateneo in OT, sets up duel vs UST in UAAP women's basketball

Adamson University outlasted Ateneo de Manila University in overtime, 59-53, in the first round of the UAAP Season 87 women's basketball stepladder on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The game was tied at 45 with less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter before Cheska Apag made a jumper to reclaim the lead for the Soaring Falcons. However, Junize Calago's triple at the 1:00 mark gave the lead to Ateneo anew.

She sank another freebie before Apag made another jumper with three ticks left which forced the game to overtime.

The no. 3 Falcons made sure not to succumb to the no. 4 team and widened the lead to five after a triple from Elaine Etang and Oluwakemi Adeshina. Ateneo made only four points in the extra period against Adamson's 10 to seal the win.

Adamson will now face the University of Santo Tomas in the second round of the stepladder. National University, who swept the elimination round, awaits the winner of the said match.
