Kevin Quiambao set to be named UAAP Season 87 MVP
De La Salle University's Kevin Quiambao is set to be named as the Most Valuable Player of UAAP Season 87.
At the end of the elimination round, Quiambao posted averages of 16.64 points, 8.64 rebounds, 4.07 assists, and 1.0 steal per game to get 81.357 statistical points.
This will be his second MVP award as he also bagged last season's top individual plum. Before Quiambao, the last back-to-back MVP was DLSU's Ben Mbala in Seasons 79 and 80. Prior to Mbala, Ateneo de Manila's Kiefer Ravena also won two consecutive in Seasons 77 and 78.
Fellow Green Archer Mike Phillips was at distant second in the race with 74.929 SPs, while University of the Philippines' JD Cagulangan placed third with 69.167 SPs. Far Eastern University's Mo Konateh (68.643) and University of the East's Precious Momowei (67.538) completed the top five.
Momowei, however, is not eligible for an individual award due to a previous suspension. University of Santo Tomas' Nic Cabañero placed sixth with 61.0 SPs.
On the women's side, Kacey dela Rosa of Ateneo de Manila University will also be named as the MVP anew as she led the stats race with 96.286 SPs. UST's Kent Pastrana (79.857) and UP's Louna Ozar (67.571) came in at second and third, respectively.
Ateneo's Junize Calago placed fourth with 67.0 SPs, however, she is also not eligible for an award because of suspension. Her teammate Sarah Makanjoula placed fifth with 65.786 SPs, while National University's Angelica Surada finished sixth with 62.0 SPs.
