'We got a shot at beating them'
While Gilas Pilipinas has already defeated Hong Kong in the first window, the nationals has yet to the Tall Blacks in a FIBA game.
However, Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone is optimistic about the team's chances this time around.
"I don't think they've seen a team like the team we're assembling before so I think we got a shot at beating them," Cone said in a press conference last November 13.
"We want to certainly protect our home court and we want to show our ourselves to our fans around the country, these are all very, very important to us and so I really expect us to be ready and motivated to play."
A ticket to the FIBA Asia Cup awaits
According to FIBA, Gilas can already secure a ticket to the FIBA Asia Cup next year should these scenarios happen:
"The Philippines will qualify with 2 wins or if they beat Hong Kong, China and New Zealand get 2 wins," the FIBA Asia Cup website said.
Aside from the Philippines, New Zealand will take on Chinese Taipei on Monday.
