EASL: Meralco overcomes Busan; San Miguel falls to Taoyuan
Meralco overcame South Korea's Busan, while San Miguel fell to Taiwan's Taoyuan in the East Asia Super League games held on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.
Meralco defeated Busan KCC Egis, 81-80, to improve to 2-1 in Group B standings, while Busan slipped to 0-2.
The Bolts were trailing 72-63 early in the fourth period before Busan found its back against the wall late in the said frame. Leon Williams handed Busan an 80-77 lead with less than a minute left before Bong Quinto connected from beyond the arc to tie the game. Meralco reinforcement Akil Mitchell's split then sealed the deal for the Bolts.
Mitchell, who played his first game for Meralco, registered 33 points and 22 rebounds for the Bolts while fellow import DJ Kennedy had 14 points. Quinto, Chris Newsome, and Ange Kouame had eight points apiece.
Deonte Burton led Busan with 26 points.
Prior to this, the San Miguel Beermen fell to Taiwan's Taoyuan Pauian Pilots, 101-85.
Quincy Miller led the Beermen with 32 points, while Don Trollano added 11 points as SMB slipped to 0-2 in Group A.
Alec Brown had 27 points, while Treveon Graham and Lu Chun-Hsiang added 25 points apiece as Taoyuan improved to 2-0.
