Kevin Quiambao drops new career-high 33 points as La Salle dominates Ateneo


Kevin Quiambao registered a new career-high of 33 points as De La Salle University dominated Ateneo de Manila University, 80-65, in their second round faceoff in UAAP Season 87 on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The reigning Most Valuable Player drilled five triples en route to the new scoring high which happened just days after he also registered a previous career-high of 29 points against University of Santo Tomas.

The Green Archers led by as much as 18, 70-52, before the Blue Eagles trimmed the deficit by nine, 73-64, past the halfway mark of the final frame. However, a Quiambao jam gave the Taft-based squad a double-digit lead anew before cruising onto the victory.

Quiambao was the only double digit scorer for the defending champions, while also having 13 rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Josh David and EJ Gollena, meanwhile, had nine points apiece. While limited to four points, Mike Phillips grabbed 13 rebounds as La Salle improved to 10-1.

Ateneo rookie Jared Bahay, on the other hand, led the Blue Eagles with a career-high 22 points. Ateneo slipped to 3-7.

Earlier, University of the East defeated National University, 74-58.

Precious Momowei had 17 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, a steal for the Red Warriors who improved to 6-3.

Tebol Garcia had 12 points as the Bulldogs slipped to 2-8.
