UE ends 14-game losing skid vs Ateneo; UP downs UST to go 6-0


The University of the East defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 69-62, on Wednesday in UAAP Season 87 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

With the win, the Red Warriors extended its winning streak to four and snapped its 14-game losing skid against the Blue Eagles.

Ateneo was leading, 45-37, at the end of the third period but a 32-point romp by UE against the Katipunan-based squad's 17 points in the final frame delivered the victory for the men from Recto.

Precious Momowei had 18 points and 15 rebounds, along with three assists, a steal, and a block, while Wello Lingolingo had 13 points as UE improved to 4-2 and won for the first time against Ateneo in nine years.

Josh Lazaro and Shawn Tuano led the Blue Eagles with 14 points apiece as Ateneo slipped to 1-5.

The University of the Philippines, meanwhile, remained perfect in six games as it took down University of Santo Tomas, 81-70.

Harold Alarcon had 16 points, while Francis Lopez had 15 points for the Fighting Maroons.

Mo Tounkara had 21 points, while Nic Cabañero and Forthsky Padrigao had 15 and 14 points, respectively, as the Growling Tigers moved to 3-3.
