Rain or Shine outlasts Magnolia in OT to regain QF series control
Rain or Shine showed endgame composure in overtime to fend off Magnolia, 111-106, in Game 3 of their best-of-five semifinals series in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The Elasto Painters, who lost Game 2 by 52 points, regained a 2-1 series lead to move a win away from a semifinals appearance.
Zavier Lucero came up big for the Hotshots in the dying minutes of the regulation, completing a three-point play opportunity before burying a huge four-point shot to force a 98-all deadlock with 13 seconds left.
Mark Barroca then came up with a crucial steal, but the veteran guard missed a potential game-winning layup as the game went into overtime.
Another Lucero layup tied things up at 106 in the extra period, but the Elasto Painters won the game by knocking down five freebies from Gian Mamuyac, Aaron Fuller, and Jhonard Clarito.
Fuller, whose right eye got poked by Ian Sangalang in Game 2, churned out 29 points and 11 rebounds alongside six assists while Clarito finished with 18 markers, eight boards, two assists, two steals, and one block.
Jabari Bird paced Magnolia with 31 points and 10 rebounds while Lucero chipped in 24 markers and nine boards.
