La Salle dominates Ateneo for third straight win


De La Salle University cruised to its third straight win after dominating rival Ateneo de Manila University, 74-61, on Sunday in UAAP Season 87 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

After holding a slim 44-40 lead at the end of the first half, the Green Archers limited the Blue Eagles to just four points in the third period, while they scored 15 to extend their advantage, 59-44.

It was all La Salle then as the Taft-based squad led by 20, 66-46, before taking the victory.

Reigning Most Valuable Player Kevin Quiambao registered 13 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals, while Mike Phillips had 13 points, 14 boards, three steals, and two assists as the green-and-white squad went 3-0.

Shawn Tuano led the Katipunan-based squad with 18 points as Ateneo remained winless in three games, its worst start in the last ten seasons. 

Earlier, Adamson University defeated University of Santo Tomas, 69-56.

Monty Montebon had 15 points, while Anthony Fransman had 11 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block as the Soaring Falcons improved to 2-1. 

Nic Cabanero had 16 points as UST fell to a similar 2-1.
