Marcio Lassiter is new PBA three-point king after surpassing Jimmy Alapag's record

Marcio Lassiter broke Jimmy Alapag's eight-year record as he became the PBA's new all-time three-point leader, making history in the ongoing game between San Miguel and Ginebra in the Governors' Cup on Sunday.

The 37-year-old veteran shooter made the record-breaking shot at the 7:08 mark of the opening frame that sent them to an 18-5 lead over the Gin Kings.

Before the game, Lassiter only needed three three-pointers to eclipse the previous 1,250 triples made by the legendary Alapag.

It didn't take Lassiter that long to kick off that bid by burying San Miguel's first basket in the game before hitting another one from downtown at the 7:40 mark to tie Alapag. Just seconds after, Lassiter hit the key basket off his own rebound to rewrite history.

Alapag, who was an icon for TNT after leading the franchise to six PBA titles, held the record since October 9, 2016 or when he surpassed Allan Caidic during that year's Governors' Cup finals Game 2 between Meralco and Ginebra.
