UP downs Ateneo in UAAP Season 87 opener

University of the Philippines took down Ateneo de Manila University, 77-61, in the opening game of the UAAP Season 87 on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

JD Cagulangan registered a double-double of 17 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds, two steals, while Francis Lopez had 14 points in the Fighting Maroons victory.

Jared Bahay introduced himself to the league with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, while Josh Lazaro had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Earlier, the league opened with a stellar ceremony bannered by a rare performance from the Eraserheads in their first show at the Araneta Coliseum.
