Ry Dela Rosa ready to make name for himself in PBA

Ry Dela Rosa is now ready to make a name for himself in the PBA.

Ry was selected by Magnolia in the fourth round in the recent PBA Rookie Draft and has a chance to continue his family's legacy in the league.

His brother Rome is currently playing with the Hotshots, while his dad Romy also played in the league for teams such as Shell and Sta. Lucia.

"It's a surreal feeling honestly, just to be in this position talaga," Ry told GMA News Online after the draft.

"Ever since I was young, I've always wanted to follow suit in what they have achieved and I'm here and I'm ready to make a name for myself."

A product of Jose Rizal University, Ry's road to the pros was quite a bumpy one.

In 2021, while in the United States, Ry suffered an ACL injury which made him sit out NCAA Season 97. He then returned in Season 98, but the Heavy Bombers placed ninth.

In Season 99, Dela Rosa was better. He played in the opening game, but after being sick, he missed seven games and returned just in time for the Mandaluyong-based squad. Despite this, the Heavy Bombers fell short and finished sixth overall.

Still, Dela Rosa said being drafted is part of God's plans for him.

"It's a blessing for sure. I was kinda just talking about it with my brother and just crazy how everything came into fruition. I prayed for this and I'm glad to be in this moment," he said.

"It's been a bumpy ride but I put in the work, I know I deserve to be here. I am confident to myself that this planned out the way God would want it to plan out for sure."

Dela Rosa is currently playing with the Iloilo Royals in the MPBL.
