Gilas Pilipinas Boys down Malaysia to open FIBA U18 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers

The young Gilas Pilipinas squad opened its campaign in the FIBA U18 SEABA Qualifiers on a high note as it took down Malaysia, 97-71, on Friday in Kuala Lumpur.

After a tight opening frame which saw the Philippines hold a slim 23-21 lead, the nationals unloaded a 28-point romp against Malaysia's seven points to end the first half with a 51-28 advantage.

It was all Gilas then as the young squad led by 27, 58-31, early in the third period before taking control of the game en route to the opening victory.

Andy Gemao posted 17 points for Gilas, while Wilham Cabonilas registered 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Yen Joon Chua led Malaysia with 14 points while Kai Sheng Teng added 13 points.

Gilas will next face Thailand on Saturday afternoon.
