Marcos on Gilas Pilipinas' bid in FIBA OQT: 'You have made us Filipinos proud'

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos, Jr. had good words for Gilas Pilipinas as the men's national basketball team wrapped its campaign in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Saturday.

The Philippines fell to Brazil, 71-60, in the semifinals of the qualifiers which ended its bid for a ticket to the Paris Olympics.

"It was a great fight, Gilas Pilipinas," Marcos said in his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

"You have made us Filipinos proud and made history! We will always stand behind you in support."

Marcos last Thursday also lauded the national team after pulling off an upset against Latvia, 89-80, in its campaign opener.

Gilas Pilipinas led in the first half, 33-27, before Brazil unleashed a strong 24-6 performance in the third quarter to end the said frame at 51-39. Eventually, Brazil took the win and advanced to the finals of the Riga meet.

The Philippines finished with a win and back-to-back losses in the Olympic qualifiers.
