UAAP: Mason Amos leaves Ateneo Blue Eagles after one year

UAAP: Mason Amos of the Ateneo Blue Eagles

In a shock move, Mason Amos has decided to leave the nest of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles following an impressive rookie year in UAAP Season 86.

The 19-year-old rising star announced his departure from the school on Monday, but has yet to confirm his next destination.

"As I sit here and write this I think about my life and I am forever thankful for what Ateneo has done for me," Amos said in a lengthy Instagram post.

"To the Ateneo community, I am grateful for the opportunities you have given me. I am grateful for the memories I have been able to create and cherish. It may be a goodbye but You will always have a place in my heart."

Amos played a pivotal role in the previous UAAP run of the Blue Eagles, posting averages of 8.87 points, 3.4 rebounds, 0.93 assists, and 0.53 steals as the Tab Baldwin-mentored squad made it to the Final Four with a 7-7 card. But they had to first hurdle Adamson in the battle for fourth due to identical records.

They, however, fell to twice-to-beat University of the Philippines in the semifinals to end their bid for back-to-back titles.

The 6-foot-7 Amos was then called to join Gilas Pilipinas, joining the national team in the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) this Thursday.

Amos, though, has nothing but love for his teammates, coaches, and the community that he treated as a second home during his one-year stay in Katipunan.

"To my teammates - with a heavy heart I would like to express that you guys have been a huge part of my life. I am thankful for everything that we were able to share," he said.

"I have no regrets having fought by your side. I am thankful that you guys taught me lessons and that we were able to create memories I will cherish forever. I love you guys and that’ll never change."
