Gilas Girls crush Maldives by 123 points to open FIBA U18 Asia Cup Division B campaign
Gilas Pilipinas Girls made sure to open their campaign at the 2024 FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup Division B campaign in style, dismantling a hapless Maldives side by whopping 123 points, 141-18, on Monday night in Shenzhen, China.
Five Gilas players breached double-digit scoring with Jolzyne Impreso and Alicia Villanueva hammering out 18 points apiece to star in the lopsided victory for the Julie Amos-mentored crew.
A 22-0 run start was all the Gilas Girls needed to put away Maldives with still three quarters left to play. They then unleashed a massive 47-0 rampage midway throught the secon all the way to late third period, turning a 52-14 lead to a huge 99-14 advantage to pull away for good.
Maldives couldn’t dig themselves out from that deep hole as the youthful Gilas punched its first victory.
Gab Ramos churned out 13 points and 10 rebounds while Christina Lapasaran flirted with double-double of 11 markers and nine boards.
Gilas will take on Lebanon on Tuesday at the same venue in bid to go 2-0 in the group stage.
