Sean Chambers honored to work with SBP in Gilas Pilipinas’ build-up for FIBA OQT
Sean Chambers' return to the country has been eventful so far, from being tapped to lead the new era for Far Eastern University in the UAAP to getting the call to help Gilas Pilipinas in its build-up for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The 59-year-old former PBA import has been spotted in attendance at the nationals' training camp at the Inspire Sports Academy in Laguna, expected to share his expertise and experiences to head coach Tim Cone and his staff.
Chambers said it is both a privilege and honor to work alongside Cone as well as Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio and executive director Erika Dy.
"I am truly privileged and honored to have the chance to collaborate with some of the leading figures of Philippine basketball," Chambers, who saw success with Alaska in the 90's, said in a Facebook post.
"The three individuals at the center of this picture are undoubtedly some of the most influential and powerful people in the Philippines in relation to the basketball National teams and I'm looking forward to working closely with them."
Chambers' arrival came just in time for Gilas' intense preparation for the final path to the Summer Games.
They will first test their mettle against Taiwan Mustangs in an exhibition match on June 24 at the PhilSports Arena. In the OQT proper in Riga, Latvia, Gilas will take on Georgia on July 3 and the host country on July 4.
