Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 captures first title in FIBA U23 Nations League

The youthful Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 seized its first title in the 2024 FIBA 3x3 Youth Nations League on Saturday night in China.

The nationals swept the elimination round of Stop 5 with three wins before pulling off a masterful 21-12 upset victory against powerhouse Mongolia in their finals duel to capture the title.

It was a massive triumph for the Filipinos as Mongolia was actually looking to grab its third title in the tournament after ruling both Stop 1 and Stop 2 while finishing as runner-up in the next two stops.

UAAP standout Noy Remogat continued to lead Gilas Pilipinas after churning out a team-high seven points while Perpetual and Letran stars Patrick Sleat and Jun Roque chipped in six and five markers apiece. Juan Miguel Tulabut rounded out the scoring with his three-point outing.

The win sees Gilas sitting at third spot in the overall tournament standings with 340 points behind Mongolia and Japan, who occupy the first and second spots with 460 and 360 points, respectively.

Gilas will look to end its campaign on Sunday for the sixth and final stop of the Nations League.
