Trillo says Meralco had 'a lot of belief and resilience' in getting over Barangay Ginebra
For the first time, Meralco overcame Barangay Ginebra in a seven-game series as the Bolts won in Game 7 of their PBA Philippine Cup semis on Friday.
Meralco was down 2-3 in the series before getting back-to-back wins to book its first All-Filipino finals stint and for head coach Luigi Trillo, it was a result of 'a lot of belief and resilience.'
"Malaki 'to sa'min. A series of seven games could've gone either way, nobody was being out coached, nobody was swept, it came down to this last game. A lot of belief and resilience here. You're down 3-2, I don't think a lot of teams come back from a 3-2 [deficit]," said Trillo on the heels of the Bolts' win.
"Big for the organization. In Meralco, we have a lot of pride in what we do. We're gonna have to savor this," he added.
However, the road does not end yet for the Bolts as they will face a powerhouse team in San Miguel in the finals.
"We're going to come prepared, believe in these guys. San Miguel, we have a lot of respect for them but we can match up with them," he said while also crediting consultant Nenad Vucinic.
"We're not happy just to be in the finals. We're not happy that we just made it. It's not going to mean anything unless we go all the way. The focus is on San Miguel."
Game 1 of the finals will be played on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
