Fil-Am Nation Select dethrones NU in NBTC; Mapua, San Sebastian, Arellano advance to QF
Fil-Am Nation Select ended National University Nazareth School's seven-year reign in NBTC Division 1 as it won over the Bullpups, 81-64, on Wednesday in the NBTC Supreme 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Terrence Hill had 21 points, six rebounds, five steals, and four assists, while Sebastian Margate had 19 points to advance to the tourney's quarterfinals or Fantastic 8.
Mapua University and San Sebastian College-Recoletos also advanced to Division 1's Fantastic 8 after Wednesday's games.
The Red Robins defeated FMLP/KMTE Davao, 63-58, while the Staglets beat 1 San Rafael, 71-69, just hours after the two teams faced off in the NCAA Battle for Third which the former won.
San Sebastian's Jhun Peñaverde erupted for 38 points, while Mapua's Vince Mananquil’s posted 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Aside from the three teams, the Fantastic 8 of Division 1 will also have Adamson University, Yengskivel Camanava, University of Santo Tomas, One Media Naga, and Batang Tiaong.
Arellano University also advanced to the Fantastic 8 of Division 2 after defeating Trinity Negros Oriental, 83-68.
Joining the Braves in the Division 2 quarterfinals are Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas, St. Roberts International College-Iloilo, Top Flight Sports Canada, Don Bosco Dumaguete, Khalifa-Cebu, and Eco Green Technology-Makati, and St. Jude College-Dasmariñas.
