Zavier Lucero relishes PBA debut as he returns from injury

Zavier Lucero made his PBA debut on Friday as his NorthPort squad opened its campaign in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The University of the Philippines product had 13 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks in his first game since being injured in UAAP Season 85. However, the Batang Pier fell short against the NLEX Road Warriors, 107-100, in overtime.

"It was a good introduction to basketball again. My first game back. Just trying to find my rhythm again and just help the team in any way I can," Lucero said on Friday.

In his last collegiate season, Lucero tore his ACL but as he returned to the game, the NorthPort rookie said he is still trying to find his spot in the team.

"I felt good out there. I didn't feel too windy or that. Just overall finding my rhythm again," he said. "It's my first game in over a year so I'm just happy that I made it through and my knees are still intact."

Lucero is also thankful to head coach Bonnie Tan for allowing him as well to do what he can on the court.

"He gives every one that he puts out there the trust to play their game. I'm out there and just trying to give my best to help the team win and do my best to find my spots and not force anything but convert on open opportunities, shoot it when I'm open and create when I can. He's letting us all find our flow in the game and trust us on that," the rookie added.

NorthPort will be back in action on Sunday against the Converge FiberXers.
