Arellano's John Lorenz says he is not 'Capulong' alleged in game-fixing
As the Senate committees on Sports and Games and Amusement tackled the proposed Anti Game-Fixing Act on Wednesday, certain names were read out loud as those allegedly involved in game fixing.
One name that was read out loud was 'John Lorenz Capulong' from the Bulacan Kuyas in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
Arellano University's John Lorenz Capulong said that he was not the one named, but rather a distant relative of a similar name.
"Di ko naman ina-assume na ako talaga. Ang ano ko lang, kasi pangalan ko. 'Di naman ako naglaro doon," John Lorenz told GMA News Online during the Chiefs' visit to the GMA Network premises for the GMA Masterclass.
"Nabigla ako kasi may naglalaro doon na katunog ng pangalan ko. Renz Capulong kasi ['yun] kaya nagulat ako. 'Di naman ako naglaro sa team na 'yon," he added.
While John Lorenz played in the MPBL before, he, however, played for the Pampanga Giant Lanterns. Renz was also listed as a guard, while John Lorenz is a big man.
"Never ako naglaro sa Bulacan," he said. "'Di naman 'yun 'yung pangalan talaga nung naglaro sa Bulacan."
The Arellano player also said he was not involved in any kind of game-fixing.
"Never tayong magiging involved sa ganyan."
GMA News Online has reached out to Renz for his side.
