PBA starts probe on verbal spat between Calvin Abueva and wife of Mo Tautuaa
The Philippine Basketball Association has started conducting an investigation regarding the incident involving Magnolia veteran Calvin Abueva and the wife of San Miguel's Mo Tautuaa on Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
After the Beermen's 109-85 victory in Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals on Sunday, a heated interaction happened off the court as Abueva and Tautuaa's wife, Aida, engaged in a verbal spat just outside the players' dugout.
"Kinausap ko na kagabi ang San Miguel management pati si Mo, ang sabi ko sa kanila ay magga-gather muna ako ng mga videos pati kakausapin ko kung sino 'yung mga taong nakakita," PBA commissioner told GMA News Online in an interview.
"Tapos ico-convene ko 'yung technical [working group] ko. Tapos kakausapin ko 'yung dalawa, si Mo at si Calvin."
(I talked to San Miguel management and Mo, I told them I would gather videos and I would talk to those who saw the incident. I will convene the technical working group and I'll talk to Mo and Calvin.)
According to Calvin's brief talk with the media on Sunday, Aida accused him of making a facial gesture directed at her. Calvin then initially left the scene but his wife went back and defended her husband.
GMA News Online has reached out to Mo for his side on the incident.
The venue security personnel escorted Calvin and Sam away from the hallway and onto the exit, while Mo and Aida would also leave the venue but through a different exit.
Marcial added that he has yet to talk to anyone from the Magnolia camp, but shared he will soon discuss the incident with Calvin and Mo after his office gathered all accounts necessary.
The league chief also said he can't say when and what decision they will come up to pending the investigation.
"Tignan natin, ayoko muna magsalita kasi cina-clarify ko pa at iniimbestigahan pa. Walang timeline pero kakausapin ko muna 'yung dalawa bago mag-Game 3," Marcial added.
(Let's see, I do not want to say anything yet since I'm clarifying and investigating. There's no timeline but I'll talk to the two of them before Game 3.)
Game 3 of the best-of-seven finals series is set on Wednesday.
