Adamson downs NU, inches closer to ending UAAP juniors title drought
Adamson University inched closer to ending its 31-year title drought in UAAP high school basketball as it overcame National University Nazareth School, 77-71, on Sunday in the Season 86 finals at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Bullpups led 59-69 late in the third period before the Baby Falcons made a 17-2 run to take a 66-61 advantage with 5:41 left before taking the Game 1 victory.
Vince Reyes led the San Marcelino-based squad with 17 points, while Gene Carillo added 13 points.
Collins Akowe had 26 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists, while Mac-Mac Alfanta had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Bullpups.
Adamson last won the UAAP high school basketball title in 1993.
