PBA to relaunch women's 3x3 league

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is relaunching its 3x3 tournament for women, months after the country's top league put the plans in the pipeline in August 2023.

The league bared the development on Friday as six teams, including two Gilas Pilipinas squads, are tipped to see action in the Invitational WPBA 3x3 set on January 22.

"We will include the women's eliminations in the remaining legs of the PBA 3x3 Season 3 Third Conference,' PBA deputy commissioner Eric Castro said in a statement released on the league website.

The tournament will see all six teams compete in a single round eliminations with the top four teams advancing to the crossover semifinals in a knockout format. The finalists will then square off in another knockout match for the title.

Aside from the two Gilas Pilipinas teams, also set to take part in the relaunch are Uratex Dream, Angeli's Resort, Philippine Navy, and Philippine Air Force.

The last time the league staged a women's 3x3 tournament was in 2015-2016 season with Blackwater seizing the inaugural title in the Philippine Cup while NLEX and GlobalPort (now NorthPort) ruled the Governor's and Commissioner's Cup, respectively.
