NLEX retires Asi Taulava's jersey no. 88


Asi Taulava NLEX jersey retirement PBA

The NLEX Road Warriors on Wednesday retired Asi Taulava's jersey no. 88 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Taulava was reactivated for their game against TNT Tropang Giga, the team which the former PBA Most Valuable Player also played for early in his career.

Playing for for around two minutes, Taulava became the longest tenured PBA player as he played for 24 seasons in the league. He had a rebound in the said game.

However, NLEX lost to TNT, 113-97.

Taulava joined the PBA in 1999. In his career, Taulava won his only championship in the 2003 All-Filipino Conference where he was also the Finals MVP. Aside from TNT and NLEX, the Filipino-Tongan played for Coca-Cola, Meralco, and Air21. 

He also played with San Miguel in the ASEAN Basketball League.

Taulava also played for the national team and won a silver medal in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship.
