Converge survives Terrafirma in OT for breakthrough win
Converge needed seven games and an extra period to barge into the win column, outlasting Terrafirma in overtime, 103-94, for its breakthrough win in the 2023 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.
The FiberXers improved to 1-6 while the Dyip absorbed their fourth straight loss to drop to 2-5.
Down three in regulation, Terrafirma banked on a last-gasp three-pointer from Javi Gomez de Liaño against the defense of Mike Nieto to tie things up at 88-all with four seconds left.
Nieto then came up with a triple attempt of hos own, but missed it to force an overtime.
But the FiberXers would not be denied in the extra period as import Jamil Wilson and rookie JL Delos Santos carried the fight en route to their first taste of victory.
Wilson churned out a team-high 32 points on top of 10 rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and one steal while reigning Rookie of the Year Justin Arana chipped in 14 markers and eight boards.
Deschon Winston also starred off the bench with 17 points, six rebounds, and a steal.
Locals paced Terrafirma as Juami Tiongson poured in 28 points while Gomez de Liaño chimed in with 13.
