Two-time Olympian Tony Genato passes away


Two-time Olympian and basketball player Antonio "Tony" Genato passed away. He was 94.

The Philippine Sports Commission announced Genato's passing on Wednesday.

Genato was part of the Philippine team which competed in the 1952 Helsinki and 1956 Melbourne Olympics.

He was also the team captain of the national team which won the bronze medal in the 1954 FIBA World Championship. This is still the highest finish of an Asian team in any edition of the basketball World Cup.

Genato, who played for the San Beda Red Lions in his NCAA stint, was also part of the Philippine team which won the gold medal in the 1954 Asian Games.
