NLEX guard Kevin Alas sustains ACL injury

Kevin Alas of the NLEX Road Warriors

Kevin Alas’ campaign in the 2023 PBA Commissioner’s Cup will be cut short after he was diagnosed with an ACL injury for the third time in his professional career.

Alas’ father, Louie, confirmed the development to GMA Integrated News on Monday, saying the diagnosis came this afternoon after consulting with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Raul Canlas while adding that the NLEX guard could be out for 10 to 12 months.

Alas sustained the injury early in the Road Warriors’ game against Terrafirma last Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Incidentally, it was also in the same venue where the former Letran Knight endured his first two ACL injuries, first was in the 2018 Philippine Cup while the second was in the 2019 Philippine Cup.

In a separate statement, NLEX also confirmed Alas’ condition.

“The NLEX Road Warriors have confirmed that Kevin Alas suffered a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), as revealed by the MRI results obtained on Monday and confirmed by well-known orthopedic surgeon Dr. Raul Canlas,” NLEX said.

“The team is currently assessing the extent of the injury and formulating a plan for Alas's recovery.”

Alas was averaging 12 points, 3.33 rebounds, and 2.67 assists to help the Road Warriors rack up a 1-2 card.
