Willie Miller joins Converge coaching staff

Willie Miller is set for his PBA return, this time as an assistant coach as he joins the Converge FiberXers in their campaign for the 2023 PBA Commissioner's Cup, the team announced on Tuesday.

The former Letran Knight will be a big boost to Converge, given his vast collection of experiences and accolades that include four PBA Championships, two PBA MVP plums, and two Finals MVP honors.

“After his playing career, Willie has been passionate about coaching at the grassroots level. It’s really his passion,” said FiberXers governor Archen Cayabyab.

“So when we got to talk to him and asked if he could be part of our staff, he did not hesitate to say yes to us.”

A unique aspect of this addition is Miller's prior association with head coach Aldin Ayo and Cayabyab during their time at Letran.

“Me and Willie grew up together in Olongapo. Then, we went to Manila together after high school. That is where we met Coach Aldin (Ayo) at Letran. We did not expect that even in the PBA, we would still be together,” expressed Cayabyab.

With his Converge arrival, the 46-year-old Miller will reunite with several Alaska staff including team manager CK Kanapi-Daniolco and medical staff Facundo Sun, Gus Vargas, and Mike Braga. He suited up for the Aces from 2006 to 2010.

Miller will provide guidance to young players like Schonny Winston, Mac Tallo, and Alec Stockton.

The FiberXers will open their campaign on Wednesday against Blackwater.
