Ange Kouame signs with French club after Asiad stint with Gilas
Gilas Pilipinas' naturalized big man Ange Kouame will open a new chapter in his career as he signed a deal to play with UB Chartres Metropole in France, the team announced just day after the national team copped the Asian Games gold on Friday.
UB Chartres Metropole sees action in the third tier of the Nationale Masculine 1, allowing the 6-foot-10 Kouame to fulfill his dreams of playing in Europe.
Kouame played a crucial role during the gold medal match against Jordan, dropping a double-double effort of 14 points and 11 rebounds as Gilas ended a 61-year gold drought in the Asiad stage.
Prior to joining Gilas in the quadrennial meet, Kouame reinforced Rain or Shine in the William Jones Cup where the Elaso Painters finished with a 2-6 card.
He also suited up for Gilas in previous World Cup Qualifiers as well as in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, averaging 4.3 points and 5.3 rebounds.
In his collegiate stint with Ateneo, he finished with three UAAP championships for the Blue Eagles as well as winning the UAAP Season 84 MVP award and being named Finals MVP in their title run in Season 85.
