Tab Baldwin happy for 'special' Gilas Pilipinas gold in Asian Games
Former Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tab Baldwin was ecstatic as the national team ended a 61-year gold medal drought in the Asian Games on Friday in Hangzhou, China.
Baldwin, who handled the national team from 2015-2016 and for a brief period in 2021-2022, said he is happy for the Gilas players and coaching staff in what he described as a "great win."
"That game was all about toughness, defense," he said in a press conference after Ateneo de Manila University's 74-71 overtime loss to Adamson University.
"[I'm] just so happy for the team. It's not for me to analyze, I just admire their defense as a coach. I'm very happy for Tim [Cone], the staff, all the players and obviously happy for the Philippine public. This is a great day for basketball in this country. It should be treasured," he added.
"Just enjoy. This is a great moment. A gold medal in that competition is special."
Gilas' gold medal win was the Philippines' fourth gold in this year's Asian Games.
