Canelo Alvarez drops Jermell Charlo en route to unanimous decision

Pound-for-pound Mexican boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez scored a knockdown en route to a unanimous decision nod over Jermell Charlo to retain his WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF world super middleweight titles this Sunday (PH time) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Alvarez pressed the action while Charlo boxed and jabbed as anticipated. The Mexican started to throw with bad intentions as early as round two, throwing his patented right to the head and body. In round 4, Alvarez had a retreating Charlo caught with a right hand on top and left hooks to the body.

An overhand right from Alvarez reduced Charlo to a knee in round 7. Smelling blood, Alvarez went for the kill, but Charlo somehow managed to survive the stanza. Alvarez stalked Charlo until the final bell, never taking his foot off the gas pedal. After twelve rounds of one-sided action, all three judges saw the fight for Alvarez. The scorecards were 119-109, 118-109, and 118-109.
