Gilas 3x3 nears Asian Games group stage sweep with rout of Hong Kong
Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 moved a win away from completing a group stage sweep in the 19th Asian Games after carving out a 21-15 win against Hong Kong on Wednesday in Hangzhou, China.
The youthful squad improved to 3-0 in Group A and will take a much-needed break on Thursday before taking on Mongolia on Friday where a win will assure the Filipinos an outright quarterfinals berth.
Bismarck Lina and John Rey Pasaol carried the scoring cudgels for Gilas 3x3, churning out seven points apiece while Bryan Sajonia chipped in three markers as well as seven rebounds.
Justine Sanchez chimed in with four points to steer the Philippines to the victory with still seven seconds to spare.
Cham Yuen Tsang and Ho Yin Wong paced Hong Kong with five points each.
Prior to the win, Gilas 3x3 also imposed its will against Jordan and Chinese Taipei.
