Youth-laden Gilas 3x3 routs Jordan to open Asian Games campaign
Bannered by youthful cagers, Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 kicked off its 19th Asian Games campaign on a winning note as the Filipinos routed Jordan, 13-8, on Monday in Hangzhou, China.
The Philippines went 1-0 early in Pool A while Jordan dropped to 0-1.
Bryan Sajonia led the crew with six points and eight rebounds while Bismarck Lina chipped in four markers and six boards. John Rey Pasaol and Justine Sanchez chimed in with two and one points apiece to help the squad.
Gilas 3x3 broke a 2-2 tie as they unleashed a 9-3 run with Lina and Sajonia providing the spark for head coach Lester Del Rosario with 3:08 to go in the game.
Pasaol then drilled the last two baskets en route to the statement victory.
Adham Dajani led Jordan with three points while Akef Al Shiyyab and Ali Kanaan tallied two markers each in the loss.
Gilas 3x3 will next face Chinese Taipei on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
