Gilas Boys succumb to Australia in semis, to battle China for bronze


Gilas Pilipinas Boys suffered a beatdown against Australia, 92-36, in the FIBA U16 Asian Championship semifinals on Saturday in Doha, Qatar.

The Philippines was limited to 10 points as the Aussies dominated with 45 points to end the first half in their favor. 

Australia led by as much as 60, 88-28, with 3:23 left before the game ended.

Irus Chua and Cletz Amos paced Gilas Boys with six points apiece, while Kiefer Alas was limited to two points in the semifinal game.

Dash Daniel registered 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Henry Sewell also posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Nash Walker had 11 points in the Australia win.

The World Cup-bound Philippine team will face China in the battle for third place set on Sunday. Australia will go against New Zealand in the finals.
