Tim Cone to coach Gilas Pilipinas in Asian Games
Decorated tactician Tim Cone will call the shots when Gilas Pilipinas competes in the Asian Games later this month in Hangzhou, China.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and the PBA on Thursday announced the development as Cone will take the reins from outgoing head coach Chot Reyes. Reyes earlier said he is stepping down from his post following the country's campaign at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Tim Cone, a 25-time PBA champion coach, is no stranger to leading Gilas Pilipinas.
The 65-year-old tactician last led the Philippines during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games here in Manila, where the Filipinos dominantly bagged the gold medal. Up until now, Cone served one of Reyes' deputies and was part of the coaching staff during the World Cup.
In 1998, he was also at the helm as he steered the Filipinos to a bronze medal during that year's Asian Games edition in Bangkok, Thailand.
