Dominican Republic staff passes from heart attack after FIBA stint
The Dominican Republic basketball team's physiotherapist Bladimir Regalado passed away after helping the team during their campaign in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
The team announced his passing on Wednesday.
"With deep sadness, we report the death of Bladimir Regalado, physiotherapist of our National Team, who suffered a heart attack on the flight back from the Philippines, where he accompanied our team in the FIBA World Cup 2023," a translation of the team's statement on its social media account said.
"We are deeply sorry for this loss and send our condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. Bladimir Regalado was a fundamental pillar in the team, dedicated and passionate about his work. Peace to your soul."
FIBA also sent its condolences to the team and family of Regalado.
"The entire FIBA team sends its love and heartfelt condolences to Selección Dominicana de Baloncesto and the family of team physiotherapist Bladimir Regalado who tragically passed away while traveling home from the World Cup," the FIBA World Cup account posted in a statement.
The Dominican Republic, led by Karl-Anthony Towns, had three wins, including one against Gilas Pilipinas, and two losses in its World Cup campaign in Manila.
